Myanmar Statistical Information Service (MMSIS)

MMSIS is the new web-based national database of statistics by the government of Myanmar’s Central Statistics Organization (CSO). Its coverage is broad, and is regularly updated with new data. Includes data related to:

  • Labour and employment
  • Demographic
  • Survey

Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS)

  • Year: 1995, 2000, 2010

  • Sample size: 4000-11000 households (depending on wave)

MICS is a household survey programme designed in order to help countries in filling data gaps on the monitoring of human development, especially focused on women and children. Each survey contains three instruments: a household survey, a questionnaire for women aged 15-49 and a questionnaire for children under five years old. Topics include maternal health, education, sexual health, HIV/AIDS, demographic characteristics, and general health.

2014 Myanmar Population and Housing Census

  • Sample size: 51 Millions

In 2014 Myanmar conducted its first census in 30 years. This exercise will provide basic information on Myanmar’s demography, education, employment and migration.

Selected Monthly Economic Indicator

The Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development’s website provides updated official statistics on: Foreign Trade, Production, Prices, Finance, Investment, Transportation and Travel, Labour and Employments.

Myanmar Information Management Unit, Baseline Datasets

The Myanmar Information Management Unit (MIMU) tracks available data from published sources on close to 200 indicators across 12 sectors, gathered at the lowest administrative level at which it is available. Available information include data on cultivated land, demography, basic economic and human development indices, employment, health and nutrition.

WFP Market Monitoring System

The World Food Programme provides monthly price data for a number of agricultural goods and diesel in Myanmar’s most vulnerable Regions/Division: Chin, Kachin, Magway, Rakhine and Sagaing.

World Bank Enterprise Survey

  • Year: 2014

  • Sample: 632 firms, 460 Micro-enterprises and 300 informal businesses

The data collected includes firm characteristics, gender participation, access to finance, annual sales, costs of inputs/labor, workforce composition, bribery, licensing, infrastructure, trade, crime, competition, capacity utilization, land and permits, taxation, informality, business-government relations, innovation and technology, and performance measures.

Over 90% of the questions objectively ascertain characteristics of a country’s business environment. The remaining questions assess the survey respondents’ opinions on what are the obstacles to firm growth and performance.

Myanmar World Health Survey

  • Sample: 90% of the available population (older than 18)
