Workshop: Urban Growth in Maputo

Past Event Maputo, Mozambique From to Cities

The IGC Program in Mozambique held a workshop aimed at defining ways to address the problems generated by urban growth in Maputo, the country’s capital. During the 1st and 2nd of June, Brazilian experts (Dr. Sergio Magalhaes and Dr. Verena Adreatta), together with technical staff from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (MOPH) and the Municipality, successfully laid out the foundations for a plan to improve the living conditions of the city dwellers, learning from a similar experience with favelas in Rio de Janeiro. In the coming months, a detailed project plan aimed at creating two new centralities in the city is to be designed. Its implementation is expected to create a more sustainable, livable and prosperous Maputo.
