The Rwanda Growth Forum 2012 brings together policy makers from the Rwandan Government to share research and promote discussion around three policy issues key to Rwanda’s growth path: the importance of real exchange rate management; the impact of the common external tariff of the East African Community (EAC) and Rwanda’s bargaining position; and Aid Dependency and how to manage the risks this poses.

A Friends of IGC Pakistan meeting was organized alongside the annual conference of the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) in Islamabad on the 14th of December, 2011. The meeting was preceded by a dinner lecture on the 13th of December, hosted by IGC Pakistan in collaboration with PIDE. Dr. Surjit Singh Bhalla, Chairman Oxus Investments, was invited as the keynote speaker.

At the request of President Koroma in April, a group of civil society leaders formed to organize a conference to discuss the future of Sierra Leone and to come to a consensus on the vision for Sierra Leone in 50 years. The purpose of this workshop was to craft the strategy for the main conference, slated to take place in mid-January 2012. The five main themes of the workshop were Economic Governance, Natural Resources, Political Governance, Private Sector Development, and Social Service Delivery. Each theme had a theme leader who moderated discussions and debates prior to the conference with the general public and with the presenters at the conference.

The IGC-Tanzania is planning to hold a research dissemination workshop on Agriculture and Growth in Tanzania on the 29th November 2011.

This event will provide an opportunity for policy makers, researchers and other stakeholders to discuss findings and policy implications of four important studies undertaken by eminent researchers in the field of Agricultural Economics.

The IGC Zambia team, with the help of the Economics Association of Zambia and in collaboration with the Zambia Revenue Authority, held a workshop on the informal sector on the 16th of November in Lusaka, Zambia.  The workshop consisted of two presentations. The first presentation was by Christopher Mulenga of the Zambia Revenue Authority entitled ‘SME Taxation in Zambia’. The second was by Manju Shah, the IGC consultant, entitled ‘Informal Sector in Zambia; Can it Disappear? Should it Disappear?’.
