Ideas for Growth newsletter - August 2012

The August edition of Ideas for Growth launches our latest country programme in South Sudan.

The world's newest country is still in a state of conflict, with border tensions, oil rents, refugee camp bombings and reprisal incursions all in evidence. The decision in February to stop pumping oil, which generates 98% of government revenue and is the country’s only export, has plunged the country into economic crisis. The IGC will help in three broad areas: responding to crisis, managing natural resources for growth, and addressing isolation, economic diversification and job creation.

The newsletter also includes a video from our South Asia Growth conference, with policy-makers and researchers talking about the importance of policy-relevant research, as well as discussing new research in Ghana, the persistence of caste in India, and how to bring growth back to Pakistan.
