Global Development Network

The Global Development Network (GDN) is a leading international organization working with developing country researchers and policy research institutes to support the generation and sharing of world-class policy-relevant research on development, helping to strengthen capacity in the process. GDN has particular strengths in building in-country research capacity in developing countries and in interfacing research findings into policy. Founded in 1999, GDN is now headquartered in New Delhi, with regional offices in Cairo and Washington. GDN works in collaboration with eleven regional partners: eight in the developing and transition world (AERC, CERGE-EI, EADN, EERC, ERF, LACEA, ODN and SANEI), and three in the developed world (BREAD, EUDN and GDN-Japan).

GDN partners with various international donor organizations and governments, a worldwide network of research institutes, academic institutions, think tanks and more than 8,000 individual researchers worldwide. GDN has a portfolio of five ‘Core’ activities:

  • Global Research Projects (GRPs)
  • Awards & Medals (GDAMs)
  • Annual Conferences (AGDCs)
  • Regional Research Competitions (RRCs)
  • GDNet

GDN also has a range of emerging activities encompassing Policy Outreach, Strategic Research Partnerships/ Institutional Capacity Building and Research Skills Training.
