Sajjad Zohir is Director of the Economic Research Group, a not-for-profit platform for researchers and academics in economics and development issues. Sajjad received his first degree from Dhaka University and did his PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto. Other than occasional teaching, his major engagements have been with research on economic and development issues. He was the Editor of Bangladesh Development Studies and was a Senior Research Fellow at BIDS until 2005. He left BIDS to experiment with an alternative organizational structure under the guise of Economic Research Group, where he is currently affiliated as a Director. He has contributed to several books and published in economic journals on issues covering food policy, rural development, microfinance, labor and trade.

Sajjad is currently a member of the Panel of Economists supporting the formulation of Bangladesh’s Sixth Five Year Plan. Sajjad Zohir has also worked as consultant/advisor in several countries in the Asia-Pacific region under the umbrella of UN agencies.
