Abid Burki is Professor of Economics and Director, Centre for Management and Economic Research (CMER) at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Before joining LUMS, he was for seventeen years on the economics faculty of Quaid-i-Azam University, most recently as Professor and Head Department of Economics. He has also taught courses in Kansas State University. His research includes work on stochastic and DEA frontier efficiency; productivity change; empirical consumer demand models; industry/sector studies; agricultural development; dairy sector; services trade and the WTO. His current research tries to understand how interventions of milk processing industry are bringing about socioeconomic and structural change in dairy sector of rural Punjab. His published articles have appeared in academic journals, such as Applied Economics, World Development, Energy Economics, and Pakistan Development Review. He has supervised one Ph.D., and more than two dozen M.Phil and Master's theses. In recognition of his services he was conferred President of Pakistan's academic distinction award Izaz-i-Fazeelat in 2001.
