Approaches to urbanization, land use planning and investments in urban infrastructure

Project Active from to Cities

The Government of Mozambique, through the Ministries of Planning and the Ministry of Public Works, asked the International Growth Centre to support its ongoing effort to improve on the structure of urban development in Maputo, the capital of the country. As a result, a research team was appointed by choosing two architects with prior experience on urbanization issues. The team visited the country and produced a thorough report anchoring their field observations within the more general theoretical framework related to urbanization in developing countries. The report also provided a discussion of contemporary urbanization issues, and aimed at identifying those that should guide urban renewal projects in general, and those that would more specifically apply to the city of Maputo.
