Over the past decade, some half a dozen countries in sub-Saharan Africa have maintained high rates of economic growth. This growth, moreover, has been broadly based across the different sectors of the economy, with industrial output doubling within a decade in several cases. Among these fast-growing economies, Ethiopian, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique have been the subject of considerable recent attention by international commentators.
The Enterprise Map series offers the first systematic and comprehensive account of the industrial sectors of these five countries. Each volume in the series begins with a general overview, and then devotes a chapter to each major industry in the country, spanning agribusiness, manufacturing, and construction.
Detailed profiles are provided of leading companies in each market and sub-market, thus providing a comprehensive view of the current frontier of industrial capabilities in the country. In particular, the history of each of these profiled companies is presented, so that the reader can trace the origins of current industrial capabilities. These volumes are of potential interest to companies considering investments in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as to policymakers within these countries concerned with fostering industrial development.
