University of Jordan and IGC sign MoU to advance evidence-based research and policy collaboration
Amman, Jordan – July 16, 2025 - The University of Jordan and the International Growth Centre (IGC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration on research, data access, and policy engagement. The agreement marks an important step toward institutionalising evidence-based policymaking through deeper integration between academic research and government priorities.
The signing ceremony took place at the University of Jordan in the presence of Prof. Dr. Nathir Obeidat, President of the University, and representatives from the IGC. The MoU formalises joint efforts to produce policy-relevant research, build institutional capacity, and create new opportunities for scholars and students to engage in impactful work.
In his remarks, Prof. Obeidat welcomed the partnership, highlighting the university’s commitment to promoting applied research that serves national development goals. He emphasised the value of aligning academic output with Jordan’s policy needs and expressed support for efforts to localise global knowledge.
The IGC team reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with the University of Jordan to support Jordan’s Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV), noting the agreement’s role in enabling high-quality, data-driven research.
“The University of Jordan is one of the country’s most respected academic institutions, and this collaboration reflects our joint dedication to Jordan’s future. We aim to bridge the gap between research and policymaking, in alignment with His Majesty King Abdullah II’s Economic Modernisation Vision, which places knowledge, innovation, and youth at its core,” Jonathan Leape, Executive Director of IGC, stated.
The partnership also supports access to microdata and enhances the potential for future collaboration on strategic national projects.
