Ethiopia’s Somali region is the worst affected by the Horn of Africa drought, with over 30 per cent of the region’s population requiring food assistance in 2017. The impact is serious with a reported large number of livestock deaths, increasing malnutrition of children and increasing number of children dropping out of school as well as severe water shortage. Large-scale population movement is also being reported in many parts of the region. It is estimated that there are 24,400 families, mainly from pastoralist communities that have settled around water points. ©UNICEF Ethiopia/2017/Nahom Tesfaye
