Assessing Tariff and Exchange Rate Pass-through in Apparel Export Prices in the European Union: LDC Graduation Implications for Bangladesh
Project Active from to Firms, Trade, productivity and regional trade
This project investigates how changes in tariffs and exchange rates affect import prices of Bangladeshi ready-made garments (RMG) in the EU market, particularly in the context of Bangladesh’s upcoming graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. It explores how much of the EU’s trade preference benefits—known as preference rents—are retained by importers, and whether Bangladeshi exporters stand to lose competitiveness and earnings as these preferences are withdrawn.
