Automation and labour market skill gaps in the manufacturing sector
Project Active from to Firms, Trade and Sustainable Growth
This project pilots a task-based measurement framework in Zambia’s manufacturing sector to examine how automation reshapes job tasks, skill requirements, and firm organisation within narrowly defined occupations. Using AI-assisted analysis of worker and manager interviews linked to international task and skill taxonomies, it generates firm-level measures of automation exposure to inform training policy and support productivity growth while limiting worker displacement.
