The causes and consequences of the male breadwinner norm in Bangladesh
Project Active from to Sustainable Growth, Firms and Trade
Societal norms perpetuate gender gaps in employment, wages, and workforce participation. This project uses randomised experiments with working couples in Bangladesh to examine the causes and effects of the widespread "male breadwinner" norm. It explores household bargaining and social image concerns and assesses their impact on labour dynamics and task allocation.
