Publicly operated buses are a crucial component of public transportation systems in the mega-cities of low and middle-income countries. While there is a growing literature on the economic impact of bus rapid transit system launches, less is known about how these large and interconnected systems should be organised to best serve passengers. Through a study in Jakarta, we unpack the design of such transport networks.
