Heterogeneous effect of migration on labour supply response of left behind members of migrant households in Ethiopia: Gender perspectives analysis

Project Active from to Sustainable Growth and Cities

Labour migration in Ethiopia is often seen as economically beneficial via remittances, but it may carry social costs for those left behind. Using national survey data and econometric analysis, this project examines how migration affects the labour outcomes of non-migrant household members, focusing on gendered remittance patterns and how the migrant’s role within the household shapes others’ labour supply responses. Findings inform tailored policies to mitigate adverse social impacts among specific groups.
