Urbanisation drives economic development in sub-Saharan Africa, but many governments resist it because they can exercise greater political control in rural areas. This project explores the political economy of urbanisation in Quelimane, Mozambique, around the 2023 local elections to understand how rural migrant integration policies influence political strategies and voting patterns.
