Slum eviction with in-situ rehousing: Evidence from Rwanda
This study examines Rwanda’s in-situ rehousing programme in Kigali. The scheme upgrades informal settlements and compensates evicted landowners with housing units in serviced apartment blocks within their original neighbourhoods. Using household surveys, it evaluates the causal impacts of the programme on incumbent residents, focusing on household welfare, residential location choices, and social networks, to inform future urban policy.
