Taxes on mobile money in Tanzania
Project Active from to Sustainable Growth, State Effectiveness, Tax and Tax for Growth
This project studies whether mobile money transactions, which are important in contexts with limited formal financial inclusion, can be a significant source of tax revenue in low- and middle-income countries. Co-generated with the Bank of Tanzania, the project uses transaction-level data to evaluate the effects of a tax on mobile money transfers and withdrawal transactions.
