This project examines the impact of public housing on socioeconomic mobility in India and investigates the factors influencing the vertical construction of informal housing. It studies the causal impact of India’s largest urban affordable housing programme—the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U)—on outcomes for participating households and discerns the factors that influence landlords to construct vertically.
