About
While Ghana has had strong GDP growth for the last 20 years, high informality, unemployment, and inequality persist. To support inclusive growth, The IGC Ghana country programme was initiated in 2009 in consultation with leaders in government, academia, policy think tanks, and civil society.
Since its inception, IGC Ghana has participated in a number of high-quality research projects in partnership with government agencies and development and private sector actors. These projects include improving local government revenue administration, understanding how power outages affect electricity payments, and measuring the impact of Bus Rapid Transit. It has achieved notable success through projects such as the Enterprise Map of Ghana and brought together top researchers and policymakers. Going forward, the IGC Ghana aims to build on work supporting business growth, improving power tariffs and efficiency, and addressing urban governance challenges.
Housed in the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research at the University of Ghana, Legon, IGC Ghana is in a unique position to engage with top researchers in Ghana and across the world to find evidence on sustainable and inclusive growth for the Ghanaian government.
