IGC-ISI summer school in development economics 2015

The IGC organised a summer school in development economics, jointly held with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI). The School was held between 16 and 20 July 2015 at the ISI’s Delhi campus. It was intended for current PhD students and those with recent PhDs. Participants was enrolled in one of two tracks: micro or macro. Each track consisted of lectures on methodologies employed in current, frontier research in the respective subjects, with an emphasis on quantitative methods, relevant to contemporary policy issues in India. Participants also had an opportunity to interact with lecturers in allocated office hours to discuss their research.

Structure

The first three days of the School had common sessions for both micro and macro track. These sessions were used to cover topics including: (a) micro-econometric methodology for research using secondary household survey data, (b) micro-econometric methodology for research using secondary firm data, and (c) introduction to macroeconomic methodology for research, and macro models.

The last two days had specialised micro and macro sessions. The specialised micro sessions covered topics such as: (a) implementing randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs), (b) RCTs and their application to education and (c) advances in empirical political economy and governance issues. The specialised macro sessions covered: (a) overview of real business cycle models and methods, and (b) emerging market economies business cycles.
