Workshop: IGC Global Crisis Group

This meeting, organised by the IGC's Global Crisis Group, focused on the effects of the global economic downturn on developing countries, how those countries are managing the impact of the crisis and what more might be done to assist them. The meeting, organized in cooperation with the Centre for Economic Policy Research, was introduced by the Chair of the Global Crisis Group, Richard Portes (London Business School and CEPR). It featured presentations by:

  • Ernest Aryeetey (University of Ghana and Brookings Institution, Accra)
  • Njuguna Ndung'u (Governor, Central Bank of Kenya)
  • Yu Yongding (Director, Institute of World Economics and Politics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing),
  • Surjit Bhalla (Oxus Research and Investments, New Delhi)


The presentations were followed by a roundtable discussion chaired by Gobind Nankani (Executive Director, International Growth Centre).
