The rapid rate of urbanisation ongoing in developing countries presents a complex and urgent set of challenges for cities to accommodate service demands and future jobs of the urban population. The global climate change crisis contributes additional urgency with the need to ensure urbanisation is not only productive, but sustainable, and increasing rural-urban and international migration, as climate deterioration and shocks cause agricultural loss and failure. This is all taking place at much lower income levels when compared with urbanisation in other parts of the world.

This online event discusses the challenges posed by climate change for cities in developing countries, as well as areas for future research and concrete actions that city governments can take to address them. The webinar is part of the LSE Environment Week programme.
