Advancing Gender Equity for Economic Growth

Upcoming Event Mulungushi International Conference Centre, Lusaka, Zambia From to Inclusive Growth

Join IGC Zambia, in collaboration with the Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research and the Economics Association of Zambia, for a public lecture exploring how fostering inter-gender collaboration, and addressing structural barriers, can unlock women's economic potential and drive societal progress.

This event aims to merge global research insights with the Zambian context, with a focus on the importance of equitable household decision-making, increased female labour force participation, and addressing structural barriers such as social norms and access to education and health services.

The event will be livestreamed.

Agenda

Open to all, this lecture invites diverse stakeholders - policymakers, academics, professionals, and students - to join a critical dialogue on advancing gender equity, ensuring sustainable economic development, and reducing disparities in Zambia and beyond. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the economic value of gender equity, inter-gender collaboration, and strategies to overcome barriers, ensuring the dialogue is both globally informed and locally grounded.

In the keynote address, Professor Nava Ashraf will present findings from the FEMFRONTIER project, highlighting the role of gender equity in promoting economic growth, human capital, and societal outcomes. The FEMFRONTIER project aims to progress gender equity and economic empowerment by addressing barriers in education and labour markets, promoting education in STEM, and nurturing collaboration through culturally sensitive interventions and evidence-based policies.

Finally, attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers during an interactive Q&A session.

Transportation

Buses will be provided for students to and from four universities. We have reserved 200 seats for students, with approximately 50 seats per institution.
