Conference: IGC & CEPR Public Policy Symposium - Public Economics in Development

In May 2012, LSE hosted the annual Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) Public Policy Symposium joint with the IGC State Capabilities programme. This year, the two-day event focused on the special theme of “Public Economics and Development”.

The goal of the symposium was to provide a forum for high-quality work in Public Economics and to bring together economists in the field from across Europe and key researchers from outside the region.

Both theoretical and empirical work was presented by STICERD-based economists Tim Besley, Oriana Bandiera, Henrik Kleven and Johannes Spinnewijn, as well as by several International academics among whom were Thomas Piketty (Paris School of Economics), Rohini Pande (Harvard University), Patrick Francois (University of British Columbia) and Laurent Bach (Stockholm School of Economics).

There was a total of twelve presentations which covered various topics in the areas of tax and transfer policy, public goods, political economy, income distribution, organisation in the public sector, and general public policy issues.
