Financing inclusive and sustainable development in Pakistani cities
Mahbub Ul Haq Research Center at LUMS and IGC Pakistan and are jointly hosting a talk that will explore the potential of a ‘beneficial property tax’ as a new reform to build inclusive cities. The event will inaugurate the Mahbub Ul Haq Reform Dialogues that are meant to engage audiences on key policy issues through an interactive debate. This talk will discuss the government's deliberations on reforms to strengthen city financing and leverage urban property tax as a tool to generate revenue for urban service delivery.
The session will feature Professor Ehtisham Ahmad and will be moderated by Dr. Ali Cheema. Professor Ehtisham Ahmad is a Visiting Professor at the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and University Professor at Zhejiang University. He is the Director of the New Climate Economy/Coalition for Urban Transitions Program on Financing Sustainable Urban Transitions, coordinating country studies on China and Mexico, and is also the Director of the LSE/CUT Programme.
