Chaired by Tim Dobermann (Director of Research, IGC), this webinar is designed for early career researchers and PhD students who are interested in state fragility and conflict research. Using examples from their own research, professors Michael Callen (Associate Professor of Economic, LSE) and Raul Sanchez de la Sierra (Assistant Professor, Harris School of Public Policy, University of Chicago), will showcase the exciting research potential of this critical research area. These presentations will then be followed by an introduction to the new SFi Scoping Fund.

After the seminar, the SFi team will contact PhD students and early-career researchers with more information on how to apply to the Fund.

Scope of the grant: The grant will support any preliminary research or early-stage project development - such as field visits, preliminary data collection, engagement with key stakeholders, small-scale pilots.

Deadlines: Proposals must be submitted before the 15 February 2025, and successful submissions will receive funding to be disbursed by 31 March 2025 (end of the UK fiscal year).

How to apply:

  1. An application form for the scoping fund will be sent to all webinar participants
  2. The completed application should be emailed to [email protected] as early as possible, 15 February at the latest.
  3. Applications will be competitively reviewed by the SFi team.
  4. Successful applicants will then be invited to a call with a Policy Economist from SFi to discuss the project and next steps.
