Policy Economist, International Growth CentreMozambican cities are experiencing rapid urbanisation caused by rural migration and, in some cases, exacerbated by population displacement due to security incidents, such as the insecurity experienced in northern Mozambique. Rapid urbanisation may also be related to consequences such as greater pressure on public services and infrastructure, greater vulnerability to the effects of climate change, increased crime, gas and emissions, less access to housing, among others.
In this context, IGC Mozambique presents this opportunity to share and discuss the results of its work linked to the socio-economic integration of rural migrants and internally displaced people from different conflict zones in the country, as a contribution to the formulation and implementation of public policies that promote sustainable and inclusive development.
