On 1st August 2017, International Growth Centre Zambia in collaboration with the Ministry of National Development Planning in Zambia held an a research and policy seminar titled "Promoting Inclusive Growth in Zambia".
The overall objective of the seminar was to create a forum to discuss the policy challenges related to promoting inclusive growth in Zambia and promote evidence based policy dialogue. This discussion is especially salient in view of the recent launch of the 7th National Development Plan under the theme under the theme “Accelerating development efforts towards Vision 2030 without leaving anyone behind”.
To motivate the discussion, two recently completed studies by International Growth Centre – Zambia were presented;
- Economic Growth, Inequality and Poverty: Estimating the Growth Elasticity of Poverty in Zambia, 2006-2015 by Chrispin Mphuka, Oliver Kaonga and Mike Tembo
- Understanding Growth-Income Inequality Interactions in Zambia by Haroon Bhorat, Nomsa Kachingwe, Morné Oosthuizen and Derek Yu
The papers analyse trends and key drivers of income inequality and poverty in Zambia over the past two decades and their interactions with economic growth and identify promising policy options for reducing inequality and poverty in Zambia.
