This is a closed-door event tackling Jordan’s critical water challenges. Hosted by IGC Jordan and the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the roundtable explores strategies for water scarcity adaptation and sustainable reforms, fostering collaboration between policymakers and development partners.

As Jordan faces the pressing challenges of water scarcity, rising demand, and fiscal pressures in the water sector, the International Growth Centre (IGC) – Jordan is hosting a pivotal Water Roundtable in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MWI). This exclusive, closed-door event brings together policymakers, leading academics, and key development partners to drive impactful discussions and explore innovative solutions for Jordan's most critical water challenges.

Participants include senior policymakers from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (MWI), Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC), and other government entities, alongside representatives from major development partners such as GIZ, USAID, the World Bank, and UN Habitat.

Spanning two focused sessions, this roundtable addresses strategies for adapting to water scarcity and the socio-economic dimensions of water tariff reforms. The event also serves as a platform for fostering collaboration, sharing actionable insights, and developing a forward-looking research agenda to inform evidence-based reforms in Jordan’s water sector.

Day 1 (January 21): Adaptation to water scarcity

  • Focus: Strategies for water-saving practices among households and farmers using behavioural and non-behavioural nudges (e.g., religious messaging, peer pressure, financial incentives).

Day 2 (January 23): Water tariff reform

  • Focus: Exploring the socio-economic impacts of water tariffs and revisions to enhance sustainability, equity, and climate adaptation.
