Zambia Agribusiness Country Platform Workshop

This workshop brings together senior government officials, development partners, and experts from South Africa's Just Energy Transition Partnership to consider how such a platform could support Zambia's agribusiness priorities.

Country platforms are intended to help governments coordinate action around national priorities by bringing public institutions, private sector actors, development partners, and other stakeholders into a shared framework for reform, financing, and implementation. As Zambia considers this approach for its agribusiness sector, the workshop offers space to build a common understanding of how country platforms work in practice and where one might add value to existing initiatives.

Drawing on South Africa's experience setting up the JET Project Management Unit and structured around the practical questions of coordination, sector strategy, financing, and implementation, the workshop will explore:

• Why country platforms matter, with an opening session from the Country Platforms Hub
• Zambia's selection of agribusiness as a platform focus and the priorities identified by the technical committee
• Lessons from South Africa, including presentations from the National Treasury and the Presidential Climate Commission
• Existing coordination structures within government, including the Climate Finance Unit, Presidential Delivery Unit, and Public Private Dialogue Forum
• How to set up and implement a platform, covering governance, long-term goals, and political alignment
• A roadmap and next steps for the Zambia Agribusiness Platform

Over the two days, the workshop aims to broaden understanding of the country platform approach among key government stakeholders and to identify where it could add value to Zambia's existing agribusiness landscape. Participants will leave with a clearer sense of how a platform could support national priorities, alongside the foundations of an agreed plan of action to take the agenda forward.
