Zambia consumer incentive scheme workshop
The International Growth Centre (IGC) hosts a workshop with the Zambian Revenue Authority (ZRA) to uncover the potential opportunities that Consumer Incentive Schemes could offer Zambia.
Consumer incentive schemes for Value Added Tax (VAT) encourage citizens to become a part of monitoring VAT compliance and ultimately discourage VAT avoidance. They are widely popular in many countries and offer eligible citizens cash prizes or tax rebates if they request a receipt or pay electronically when they purchase VAT liable goods.
VAT is one of the main sources of tax revenues in Zambia. Through the workshop the IGC highlights how consumer incentive schemes can improve VAT compliance, and how they could be designed to suit Zambia’s specific tax context. The workshop is a closed-door event with participants from the ZRA and features presentations from Prof. Brian Dillon and Prof. Vincent Somville.
