How to apply

The IGC call for proposals is now closed.

The IGC call for proposals 2024 is closed.

  1. Read the IGC research strategy and our newly refreshed evidence papers to see if your proposed topic fits with the IGC research agenda. These will provide a review of the literature and identify core research questions and priorities within our four themes: Firms, trade and productivity; State effectiveness; Cities; Energy and Environment.

We strongly encourage you to review the country research priorities for the country you wish to conduct research in, as each country has its own policy priorities.

  2. Read the Application guidelines to help you complete your application. This guide contains useful technical information covering budgets and remuneration, project deliverables, and grant management.

Our resources for applicants provide content on how to develop successful research proposals and ensure they meet a high standard of quality. This page includes videos by research experts on the principles of writing competitive grant proposals, as well as examples of successful research designs and model budgets.

  3. If working in one of our 10 IGC countries, contact the IGC country team and share your research idea with them. They can review it and provide feedback. The likelihood of a proposal being funded is higher if it is discussed with our country teams prior to submission. This is a requirement for small grant applicants, but we strongly encourage all applicants to do this.
  4. Complete the relevant IGC proposal form for small research grants or full research grants.

Applications without budgetary information will not be considered for funding. Make sure you save your work as you progress on your application. Please note applications submitted using the old IGC proposal form and budget template will not be accepted.
