The IGC announces plans to launch work with LSE’s Global School of Sustainability

Press Release Energy

The International Growth Centre (IGC) announces plans to work with the new LSE Global School of Sustainability, further establishing our profiles as leading centres for high-impact research on sustainable growth and climate change in developing countries.

The plans include launching a flagship Climate and Growth Initiative, investing in a Data Lab on climate, energy, and the environment, and introducing a strengthened focus on climate finance and investment work.

These new activities follow the largest strategic exercise ever undertaken by the IGC to mainstream sustainable growth and climate change across its work, culminating in the publication of our white paper in 2023, Innovation, growth, and the environment

Tim Dobermann (Director of Research, IGC, and co-author of the paper) says:

“Low- and middle-income countries are the most vulnerable to climate change, but also the largest drivers of future emissions growth. Our white paper shows that understanding how growth can be achieved without generating further damage to the planet has become an urgent need. Sustainable growth is integral to achieving economic and climate resilience, and shared prosperity, across the world. We believe that research from the academic frontier in economics can contribute to the policy dialogue on sustainable growth, both globally and locally. Our work with the LSE Global School of Sustainability presents an exciting opportunity to do so.”

Jonathan Leape (Executive Director, IGC) says:

“The IGC has a long tradition of building partnerships across LSE, to achieve a more sustainable and inclusive future for everyone, and I am delighted to be working with the LSE Global School of Sustainability on these new opportunities. Together, we will be able to significantly expand our portfolio of research and policy impact on sustainability and help close the evidence gap on policies designed to deliver inclusive growth in developing countries.”
