Beata Smarzynska Javorcik is Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford. She was formerly Senior Economist in the Development Economics Research Group of the World Bank. Her research interests focus on determinants and consequences of inflows of foreign direct investment. Her work has been published in economic journals such as the American Economic Review, the European Economic Review and the Journal of Development Economics. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University and a B.A. from the University of Rochester. At the World Bank she has also served as a country economist for Azerbaijan and done work on Central European countries, China, Indonesia and Latin America.
