Giles worked as an economist and advisor in a range of roles for international organisations, the private sector, government and the not-for-profit sector. From 2014 to 2018 he worked as a senior economic advisor and researcher in both the Myanmar Centre for Economic and Social Development and the Union Parliament. Providing technical support, training and advice on issues related to Myanmar’s economic and political transition. Prior to this, he worked as an Economist with the Institute for Economics and Peace, where he led research on peace, conflict and economic development. Before this, he worked as an economist with the Federal Treasury, where he advised Government on tax policy, climate change and Australia’s provision of development assistance in the Asia-Pacific region. He holds a Masters of Development from the University of Sydney and an Honours degree in Economics from the University of New England.
