Grieve Chelwa

Grieve Chelwa is a PhD candidate in economics at the University of Cape Town. He is a Graduate Associate of the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit and is also affiliated with The Economics of Tobacco Control Project both housed at the University of Cape Town. His doctoral research is on the economics of tobacco control in Zambia where he intends to investigate various aspects of the demand for tobacco using household survey data. He is also interested in immigration issues and sometimes blog for Open Borders. He has previously worked as a researcher for the Center for Financial Regulation and Inclusion and prior to that worked in banking/finance for Citi in their Africa Division. He did his undergraduate studies in economics and statistics at the University of Zambia. He is originally from Lusaka, Zambia but has lived in Lagos, Nairobi, Johannesburg and Kinshasa.
