HE Janice Charette

Janice Charette assumed her responsibilities as Canadian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in September 2016.

Prior to this, Ms. Charette served as Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet from October 2014 to January 2016 where she served as the principal public service advisor to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Prime Minister Stephen Harper as well as the head of the public service.

She was Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council and Associate Secretary to the Cabinet from January 2013 to October 2014. She also held the position of Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs from November 2010 to January 2013.

Ms. Charette served as Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (2004-2006), and Associate Deputy Minister at Health Canada (2003-2004).

In 2001, Ms. Charette joined the Privy Council Office as Assistant Secretary to Cabinet for Priorities and Planning, and was named Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet for Plans and Consultations in 2002. Previously, she held the position of Senior Assistant Deputy Minister for Policy at the Department of Justice.
