Maha A. Ali is the Secretary General of the Jordanian National Commission for Women, bringing extensive experience in trade policy, industrial development, and economic diplomacy. She has twice served as Jordan’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply (2020–2021 and 2015–2016) and previously held the position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply for five years. Her international experience includes serving at the Economic Section of Jordan’s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva in 2002. In addition to her government roles, she has contributed to academia as a Professor of Practice at Al-Hussein Technical University (HTU) and the German Jordanian University.
Ms. Ali holds a BSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Jordan, an MBA from the German Jordanian University, and a Trade Policy Diploma from the World Trade Organization. Recognized for her leadership, she was ranked as the 8th most powerful Arab woman in government by Forbes Middle East in 2015. She has extensive expertise in trade negotiations, industrial policy, and investment strategies.
Her contributions have been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Third-Class Order of Independence (2008) and the Fifth Degree Order of Independence (2000), both awarded by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in recognition of her service and contributions to trade policy. In 2016, she received the Governor General’s Medal of Canada from Governor David Johnston for her role in strengthening Jordan-Canada relations.
