Melanie Morten is a development economist whose research seeks to improve our understanding of the migratory processes of the poor. She is an Associate Professor in the department of Economics at Stanford University, a Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) and a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. She obtained her Ph.D at Yale university in economics with Distinction, her thesis was on ‘Temporary Migration and Endogenous Risk Sharing in Village India’.
Melanie focus on two aspects of migration: The effects of migration and the determinants of migration. This includes migration across international borders, permanent and temporary migration within countries, and within-city residential choice.
