Nikita Sangwan

Nikita is a Lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast and an EfD Early Career Research Fellow. She completed her PhD at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi Centre, and is a Junior Fellow at the Centre for Research on the Economics of Climate, Food, Energy and Environment (CECFEE).

Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of technology, labour, environment, and agriculture, with a particular focus on gender.

Her work examines the gender differentiated labour impacts of climatic shocks and the role of social safety nets in mitigating their adverse effects. She also studies how women’s agency shapes household welfare outcomes.

Nikita has worked on a randomised controlled trial in Delhi, India, exploring how reducing job search costs and leveraging social networks can ease social constraints to women’s employment. She is currently collaborating with digital job platforms to study the role of beliefs and information in job search behaviour, as well as the impact of artificial intelligence algorithms on labour market dynamics.
