Prof Martins studies employment and wage dynamics, focusing on some of their key determinants: skills, firm performance, the business cycle, employment laws, industrial relations, FDI and international trade. His research draws on his experience as Secretary of State of Employment in the Government of Portugal (2011-2013) and has been sponsored by the ESRC, the European Commission, the British Academy, IPEA (Brazil), and FCT (Portugal). Prof Martins is also a research fellow of IZA (Bonn) and CEG-IST (Lisbon) and an adviser to EPIS.
