Ragui Assaad is Professor and Freeman Chair in International Economic Policy at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. He is Research Fellow at the Economic Research Forum in Cairo, Egypt, and at the Centre for Labor Economics (IZA) in Bonn, Germany. Assaad’s research focuses on labour markets and human development in the Arab World, with a focus on youth and gender issues as they relate to education, transition from school-to-work, labour force participation, job creation, poverty, informality, migration, and family formation. Assaad has edited several volumes on Arab labour markets, including The Egyptian Labor Market: A Focus on Gender and Economic Vulnerability (2022), The Jordanian Labor Market Between Fragility and Resilience (2019), The Tunisian Labor Market in an Era of Transition (2018). He also has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals.
