Stefano is a Lead Academic for IGC Ethiopia.

He is a Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford. In his research, Stefano studies how to make labour markets in low- and middle-income countries more efficient and more equitable. His work is based on extensive fieldwork and uses a mix of experimental and structural methods. Current research interests include the equilibrium effects of search frictions, the impacts of job-loss risk and job-loss insurance in low-income labour markets, how different mental models of competition change firm decisions, and the intersection between labour market policy and climate change. He is associate editor at Econometrica, co-chair of the labour sector at J-PAL, and lead academic for the Ethiopia program of the International Growth Centre.
