William Lyakurwa is the former Executive Director of the African Economic Research Consortium. He held the post of Senior Trade Promotion Advisor at the International Trade Centre in Geneva until 1993. Lyakurwa held the positions of AERC’s Director of Training and then Deputy Executive Director until his appointment as Executive Director in 2003. As Director of Training, Mr. Lyakurwa launched the Collaborative Masters Programme (CMAP) and the Collaborative PhD Programme (CPP). Lyakurwa received his PhD from Cornell University in 1978. Lyakurwa has published extensively in local and international journals as well as contributed chapters in books, research and discussion papers, most recently to ‘Helping the Poor? The IMF and Low-Income Countries’, published by Fondad, June 2005.
