Measuring civil conflict: Should newspaper reports be trusted?

Project Active from to State

The project's aim is to shed light on the degree to which newspaper reporting of conflict is biased by collecting data on conflict-related events from Philippine newspapers. These will be compared to already existing data derived from reports produced by military units operating in the field. Comparing data from newspapers and field reports will allow for an assessment of whether newspapers systematically under-reported certain types of conflict incidents and whether previous conflict studies would have produced substantially different results had they relied on more accurate data.
