Property rights and tax compliance
This study examines how formalising property rights through land titling in Quelimane, Mozambique, influences citizen-state relations. The study finds that legal documentation significantly boosts political engagement, prosocial behaviour, and subjective wellbeing. While economic shifts such as labour reallocation and reduced remittance dependence were observed, income and credit access remained unchanged, highlighting the gradual nature of economic returns from tenure security.
