Shifting household power demand across time: Incentives and automation

Working paper Sustainable Growth and Energy

Enhancing flexibility in electricity demand is essential to addressing the intermittency of renewable energy while meeting net-zero emissions targets. This paper discusses a randomised controlled trial in urban India, where households received Wi-Fi-enabled smart switches for their appliances. The trial involved automated 30-minute switch-offs, with participants rewarded for energy savings.
