Understanding underage marriage in Bihar

Policy brief 30 May 2025 State Effectiveness and Women's Economic Empowerment

Underage marriage in rural Bihar has increased despite government initiatives, highlighting the need to understand its social and economic drivers. This study investigates how various factors contribute to child marriage using primary data from households across three districts and a list experiment to uncover concealed attitudes and provides recommendations for policymakers.
